Technology Strategy Consultancy
Benelux RF Conference 2018
(Nijmegen, The Netherlands) I presented an invited paper at the Benelux RF Conference, November 28, 2018. Topics are the outlook of mmWave 5G and InP front-haul photonic integration given the maturity of the underlying technologies and the practical implementation challenges. |
Neways Micro Electronics (NME)
(Echt, The Netherlands) NME is a small unit within the much bigger Neways company, which specialises in PCB design and assembly. NME, however, produces products based on thick film technology. I have lead a task force within NME on the strategic scenarios around thick film technology. Although thick film is sometimes considered outdated, the ceramic substrates it uses are particularly suited for high power or high temperature ambient conditions, such as automotive and industrial applications. The result was an ambitious technology roadmap based on two unique new hybrid thick film technologies. One with the addition of fine line to standard multi-layer thick film, one with the addition of a plated layer for hybrid power applications. The plan was presented to the Neways management, accepted, and at the moment the technology development projects are running.

Mapper
(Delft, The Netherlands) I helped Mapper to fine-tune the application strategy, specifically focussing on their FLX-1200 lithography machine with its 65.000 independently controlled e-beams. Through its unique capability of mask-less data-controlled lithography it offers technical solutions not obtainable with classical mask-based lithography. The project also included modelling of advanced CMOS wafer and mask costs. Has resulted in the much stronger Mapper application story to the market and customers, to start with on the truly unique IC's for security applications: https://www.trulyuniquechips.com/ |
MACOM
(Lowell, Massachusetts, USA) Macom is a major player in the RF semiconductor space, with a broad portfolio of RF components, IC's, power amplifiers and recently also optical networking IC's and modules. I lead a task force to define a SiGe strategy for emerging active antenna phased arrays and RF components, including technology and development sourcing. The plan was presented to MACOM management, accepted and being implemented.

R&D Process Consultancy
AMS (Premstätten, Austria) AMS is a leading player in semiconductor sensors and has recently grown through many acquisitions. I did an R&D Quick Scan to assess the status of Engineering given the growth ambitions of the company. Results were presented to the Management Team and implementation has started. |
Since then I've been continuously involved as consultant to the ams Engineering organization at large, mostly working for the SVP Engineering in helping the implementation of best practices for the Engineering organization and processes.
